Help and Advice - How to attempt it yourself

Toilet Unblock

If your toilet is filling to the top and slowly draining or making a 

gurgling sound then here is some helpful advise for you to attempt to 

clear it yourself.

Things you will need

• Wear protective water resistant gloves and protective eye wear
• Plunger
• Drain Auger

Method

Run your plunger under warm water to soften the rubber. If your toilet 

is at low water level Flush once so the toilet fills then enter the 

plunger with slow thrusts backwards and forwards to try and dislodge the blockage within the system if you do have a Auger then feed the Auger round the rear of the toilet and keep spinning until you locate the blockage, spin lightly to try and dislodge the blockage but please note try not to kink the Auger as this can cause the Auger to break. If all fails then it's likely you require a professional drainage engineer with 

the correct equipment.

Sink and shower unblock

If your sink or shower is making a gurgling sound or slow draining here 

is some helpful tips to try and clear it at home yourself

Things you will need

• Drain Auger
• Caustic Soda
• Bleach
• Vinegar
• Hot Water
• Baking Soda
• Bucket

Method

Pour Vinegar and baking soda down the sink hole/shower hole followed by a bucket of hot water ( use with caution ) slowly pour into the drain and leave to sit for 30 minutes. If this is unsuccessful then remove pipework from underneath the sink have a bucket in place catching the excess water then enter the drain Auger into the pipework spin until blockage is cleared if the Auger becomes stuck do not continue to spin as this could break the Auger if by then you are still experiencing the same issues then it's time to contact a drainage specialist as the problem could be underground.
